Titanic (British Titanic sank in 1912)

Titanic (British Titanic sank in 1912)

Titanic, also known as Titanic, is an Olympic class cruise ship under the jurisdiction of the British white star shipping company. Construction of the RMS Titanic started on March 31, 1909 at the harland and Wolfe shipyard in Belfast port, Ireland. The ship was launched on May 31, 1911 and completed for trial voyage on April 2, 1912.

Titanic was the largest passenger ship with the most luxurious internal facilities in the world at that time. It has the reputation of "unsinkable". Unfortunately, on her maiden voyage, the Titanic was doomed -- she set sail from Southampton, England, via cherbert-octeville, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, on her way to New York. At about 2340 hours on April 14, 1912, the Titanic collided with an iceberg, causing the starboard bow to burst in the middle of the ship, and five watertight compartments were flooded. Around 2:20 a.m., the Titanic's hull broke in two and sank 3,700 meters into the Atlantic ocean. Of the 2,224 crew and passengers, more than 1,500 died, with only 333 bodies recovered. The wreckage of the Titanic, the deadliest peacetime shipwreck, was not rediscovered until 1985 and is now under the protection of the United Nations' education, scientific and cultural organisation.

One of the more unusual survivors of the Titanic was Violet ConstanceJessop, who waited on board the uss olimpus when it collided with the royal navy destroyer hawker on Sept. 20, 1911. On April 10, 1912, Ms. Jessup transferred to work on the Titanic and survived a catastrophic accident four days later. After the outbreak of the first world war, Ms. Jessup worked for the British Red Cross and became a nurse. She happened to be on board the British Nick when it sank on November 21, 1916. In the accident, she and the other passengers boarded the lifeboat in time, but nearly got caught in the propeller. As a last ditch move, Ms. Jessup jumped into the water and…

The Titanic was the culmination of human dreams, and a reflection of the confidence with which we hold the world in our hands. Its sinking shows the mysterious power of nature and the unpredictable fate of mankind. By the time the Titanic sank, people in the western world had enjoyed 100 years of stability and peace. With the steady progress of science and technology and the rapid development of industry, people have full confidence in the future. The sinking of the Titanic woke all this up. The "unsinkable ship" -- the largest man-made steel structure since the Eiffel Tower, the great achievement of the industrial age -- sank on its first voyage because it was careless about the power of…
