Tungus Explosion


At dawn on June 30, 1908, russians in tunguska, Siberia, were fast asleep. Suddenly, there was a strong wind, and there was a great noise in the wind. After the wind stopped blowing, there was a momentary quietness and an unusual sound from a distance. People were awakened by the unusual sound. At 7:43, the explosion started. A burning monster, trailing a long tail of fireworks, from south to north across the sky, disappeared beyond the horizon, the horizon rose a huge flame. More than a minute later, people heard the clear roar that seemed to come from afar again, and the earth began to tremble. After that, three powerful explosions were felt. In the days after the explosion, a ghostly orange color blanketed the sky of tunguska, 9, 000 miles around. Large areas have seen a continuous pattern of white nights.

On 30 June 1908, at around 07:17 local time, Evenki natives and Russian settlers in the hills north-west of Lake Baikal observed a column of bluish light, nearly as bright as the Sun, moving across the sky. About ten minutes later, there was a flash and a sound similar to artillery fire. Eyewitnesses closer to the explosion reported that the source of the sound moved from the east to the north of them. The sounds were accompanied by a shock wave that knocked people off their feet and broke windows hundreds of kilometres away.
